In these days, when moms and dads are more concerned than ever about our children's health, we can take a series of measures to protect our families as much as possible.
For this reason, today on Doña Carmen's Blog we bring you some tips to avoid possible infections.
Like all illnesses, the coronavirus can be transmitted through surfaces we touch. Especially if we've sneezed into our hands and then touched our clothes or other household items.
Although the WHO does not yet know exactly how many hours the COVID-19 virus can survive on surfaces, it has been proven that it can take from a few hours to several days for the virus to disappear on them. This makes it essential that we disinfect household items, especially our clothing, during quarantine.
Fabrics are one of the main sources of infection, as they can accumulate mites and germs if not washed properly. For this reason, it's essential to learn how to disinfect the clothes of children and the rest of the family.
The classic method for disinfecting fabrics is to boil all garments for 30 minutes. However, a wash program above 70 degrees Celsius is sufficient to eliminate any possible presence of the virus.
If the fabrics are delicate and cannot withstand these high temperatures, we can always choose to disinfect the garments by adding other solutions such as vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, or bleach to the usual detergent.
Additionally, we can find specific products on the market to disinfect clothes without damaging the fibers or risking damage during washing due to high temperatures. At Doña Carmen, we recommend checking the label instructions before disinfecting your clothes.
In addition to disinfecting clothes, remember the importance of instilling good hygiene habits in the little ones in the house during these days.
Wash your hands
We should remind our children to wash their hands slowly, spending at least 30 seconds on this process and not forgetting to soap any part of the hand. We should thoroughly scrub the palms, backs of the hands, and between the fingers with plenty of hand soap.
Sneezing into the inside of your elbow
Just as important as washing your hands properly is getting into the habit of sneezing into your elbow , as this prevents children from spreading bacteria and viruses to other surfaces via their hands.
Use single-use tissues
If our children have nasal congestion, we should try to teach them to always have tissues with them and to take them to the trash after use. Tissues can act as conductors of bacteria and viruses, just like our hands, so it's important to dispose of them after use.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
Although our little ones spend all day with their hands on their faces, these days we need to explain to them that they can't rub their eyes or put their hands in their mouths without first washing them thoroughly. Children have the ability to understand the situation we're in and what COVID-19 is if we tell them, always adapting our story to the child's age.
With these small gestures, we can prevent the spread of the virus and keep our families healthy at home. We at Doña Carmen send you all our love and hope you are all well. Together, we will overcome this situation and return to normal.
