Three games for bad weather

children wearing Doña Carmen's clothes.

At this time of year, when the cold is the main attraction, it may seem like weekends are doomed to boredom for the little ones. However, today, on Doña Carmen's blog, we bring you a few ideas for family games without having to leave the house, beyond the more common activities like watching a movie or playing with the gifts the Three Wise Men brought.

The essence of these games lies in using the home as the centerpiece and providing physical activity that will keep children active and entertained during the winter afternoons. They also promote family fun, as these games will entertain everyone, from the youngest to the oldest.

1. Obstacle course

To turn our living room into a real obstacle course, we'll need a few materials and objects, such as balloons, hoops, ropes, and blankets. For the first challenge of the circuit, we can arrange the hoops in a zigzag pattern so the little ones can jump from one to the other, unable to escape. For the second challenge, we can create a tunnel with the blankets, attaching them from the sofa to a table with clothespins. Participants must crawl from one end to the other to complete the challenge. Once through the tunnel, the children must try to touch the balloons by jumping to the height at which they were previously hung. Finally, for the third challenge, we can use classic games like jump rope, tug-of-war, and limbo to complete the course. These are just a few ideas, but if you use your imagination, you can surely create your own personal circuits, including your children's favorite games.

2. Shoot the pom-poms!

Secondly, we find a much simpler activity as it doesn't require prior planning, but this doesn't mean it's more boring. This game is inspired by basketball but adapted to the home interior. For this reason, it's necessary to use soft materials to avoid damaging our furniture. The game mechanics are very simple: whoever scores the most baskets wins. We can replace the ball with wool pom-poms , and we can use a wicker basket for the basket. A more fun alternative is to use candy like marshmallows, which will be the reward at the end of the game.

3. The treasure hunt

We come to the last pastime: the treasure hunt, a fun game that will keep the little ones entertained for a good part of the afternoon. Before starting to play, we have to hide clues throughout the house that will lead to the final prize. The next step is to give our little ones a map where we mark the hidden clue locations with the initial of the piece of furniture in which they are hidden. To prevent them from discovering each other's clues, we can offer each child an alternate route, avoiding having them in the same room. Another option is to add a theme to this game, such as a pirate theme. This way, the children will enjoy the game more and can dress up outside of Carnival or Halloween.

At Doña Carmen, we assure you that children will enjoy any of the activities offered during bad weather . What do you think of these bad weather games? We look forward to your comments.
